Ssion

Ssion (pronounced ‘shun’) is Cody Critcheloe – essentially a name for his idea(L)s that encompass a wide-range of media consisting of music, videos, art and live performance. It began as a punk band in Kentucky where Critcheloe is from and continued to morph throughout America's heartland into the NY/LA based project it is today. Technically, SSION isn’t really from anywhere and doesn’t belong/subscribe to any scene and even though people like to describe it as a “gay” this or that, it’s really more like a body-conscious punk-pop centric modern-day Grateful Dead, with a rotating list of collaborators. SSION is always active but never consistent; sporadically releasing records for over 10 years while directing music videos for other artists including Santigold, Kylie Minogue, Perfume Genius, Gossip, Liars, and more. Ssion has also created artwork for Yeah Yeah Yeahs ‘Fever To Tell’ and most recently Charli XCX. SSION's 2012 release “Bent” garnered huge amounts of attention from the likes of New York Times, Dazed & Confused, V magazine, Fader, Vice etc. and was accompanied by critically acclaimed music videos for “My Love Grows in The Dark”, “Earthquake”, “Luvvbazaar”, and “high” – all produced and directed by Critcheloe.
