Marc Wittmann

Marc Wittmann studied Psychology and Philosophy at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, and the University of Munich, Germany (1990-1994). He received his Ph.D. (1997) and his Habilitation (2007) at the Institute of Medical Psychology, Medical School, University of Munich (under supervision of Prof. Ernst Pöppel). He was a research fellow at the Institute of Medical Psychology from 1994 to 1999. 1999 and 2000 he was Project Leader at Sciencia Ltd. in the field of Cognitive Ergonomics, and from 2000 to 2004 he was head of the Generation Research Program at the Human Science Center, University of Munich. Between 2004 and 2009 Marc Wittmann was Research Fellow at the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California San Diego. He is currently employed at the Institute for Frontier Areas of Psychology and Mental Health, Freiburg, Germany. His research focuses on time perception as indicator of cognitive functioning and emotion. Time perception ranges from milliseconds to seconds in sensory and sensori-motor processing. It also encompasses decades when memory and the anticipation of life periods are concerned. His studies on different temporal-processing mechanisms employ psychophysical experiments, time perception inventories and functional MRI. In particular, he investigates the effects of different durations, age, psychopharmacological treatment, chronic drug abuse and brain injury on the experience of time.
