Stefano Scodanibbio

Contrabass virtuoso and composer Stefano Scodanibbio, who was born in 1956 in Macerata (Italy) and died in January 2012 in Cuernavaca (Mexico), was an interpreter of New Music who significantly expanded the sound possibilities of his instrument through new playing techniques. He premiered a number of works, some of which were written specifically for him, and worked closely with composers such as Giacinto Scelsi and Luigi Nono. He regularly performed with Rohan de Saram, Terry Riley and Markus Stockhausen. His own work, which Scodanibbio himself acknowledged as being influenced by Riley among others, encompasses more than 50 works with a focal point on music for strings.
