Luxa M. Schüttler works as a composer, performer and media artist with an aesthetic focus on the recontextualisation of the social, media, performative, biographical and physical aspects of music. In doing so, Luxa relies on disparate sonority, structural imbalances and sonic diversity, often interspersed with pop cultural references.
Luxa’s works are often created in collaboration with artistic partners such as the Nadar Ensemble, asamisimasa, MAM.manufaktur für aktuelle Musik, Ictus, the Ensemble Mosaik or the Trio Catch. In addition, their music can be heard with numerous renowned ensembles (SWR Vocal Ensemble, Musikfabrik, hr-Sinfonieorchester, SWR Sinfonieorchester, Ensemble Modern, KNM Berlin, Ascolta, Contrechamps) and at international festivals (Warsaw Autumn, musica Strasbourg, Donaueschinger Musiktage, Darmstadt Summer Courses, Wien Modern). Further output includes publications, radio broadcasts, lectures, courses, performances, installations, exhibitions and concerts worldwide.
Luxa studied composition and music theory at the Folkwang University of the Arts with Nicolaus A. Huber and Ludger Brümmer. They have received scholarships from the ZKM Karlsruhe and Villa Serpentara, among others. Luxa taught at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts and at Philipps University in Marburg. In 2023/24 they were a fellow at the Berlin Institute for Advanced Study.
