Angélica Liddell / Atra Bilis Teatro: You Are My Destiny (lo stupro di Lucrezia) © Brigitte Enguerand
According to the ancient myth, Lucrece was a virtuous Roman woman who swore to be faithful to her husband and committed suicide after she was raped by Tarquin. Angélica Liddell, who is notorious for her excessive works, tells this tale of a rape trauma like a love story. On stage, ten virile, vigorous men face the fragile Lucrece, who does not just resign herself to her fate, but tries to contribute to its formulation. This is accompanied by a choir of Ukrainian men. In contrast to her previous works, in this piece, which is part of her “Resurrection Cycle”, the Catalan author, director and performer sets out on a search for faith and spirituality – without any hope, however, of salvation. During the past 20 years, Liddell’s art has developed from intimate works to monumental pieces with numerous performers on the big stage. Here, Liddell works with a group of men and boys who lend impressive momentum to this production.
