The Dream Eater by Wilfried Hiller, based on the famous book by Michael Ende, is already a children's music theatre classic. Schlafittchen, Princess of Slumberland, has chased the ugly Dream Eater out of the cellar and is now plagued by the bad dreams that have been so reliably eaten up before they could get near him and his parents. The people, who always elect the person who sleeps best as king, want to drive Schlafittchen's unhappy parents from the throne. At the last moment, the king finds the completely emaciated dream eater and, with the help of Sleeping Beauty and the assembled crowd of children, manages to put the mythical creature back in its place.
Für Das Traumfresserchen verlässt das KinderMusikTheater das Foyer der Deutschen Oper Berlin und „erobert“ mit dem Haus der Berliner Festspiele in der Schaperstraße ein weiteres Theatergebäude ihres Architekten Prof. Fritz Bornemann.
Die junge Regisseurin Bettina Disler machte zuerst mit Experimentalfilmen auf internationalen Festivals auf sich aufmerksam. Zusammen mit den Bühnen- und Kostümbildnerinnen Elke Scheuermann und Sara Giancane realisierte sie in Zürich mit großem Erfolg zwei multimediale Opernprojekte: Sancta Susanna (mit Paul Hindemiths expressionistischem Einakter im Zentrum) und Schlaf, Kindlein, Schlaf, eine Fantasie um Blaubart.
