By Helena Waldmann
World premiere
The burka is a coat worn by Afghan women, completely covering them.
Bondage is a technique which ties Japanese Women submissively up. After the Taliban destroyed the famous Bamiyan Buddhas in 2001, Helena Waldmann travelled to the richest and the poorest country in Asia.
All that remained of the Buddhas in Afghanistan was their 'frame of decency'. They were blown up because the body is deemed unbearable. It is shame which robs the body of its freedom.
This is also how the Japanese would interpret this case of destruction.
There, bonds are liberating; the invisible becomes the ideal. Helena Waldmann is searching for the faceless body. With two female dancers who love the extreme, one male artist who erases the body, and a genius of drums. Their mission is to tear the mask from shame.
