Bruno Beltrão is well known for his dance deconstructions of hip-hop: his powerful choreographies combine street dance, breakdance and hip-hop with contemporary dance. In INOAH he refers to the political situation in his home country of Brazil: against the background of the corruption scandal, Beltrão asks how we are connected to our environment and how we are influenced by events and ideologies. Ten dances from his company, Grupo de Rua, look at these interdependencies in pulsating encounters between aggression and excess, confrontation and community.

Bruno Beltrão was born in Niterói, a city near Rio de Janeiro, in 1979. In 1996 he founded his Grupo de Rua, which won numerous street-dance competitions. Beltrão studied philosophy and dance, and began to question the established masculine-defined movement structures and stereotypes of hip hop. He developed his own, analytical style, which combines street dance with contemporary dance. Grupo de Rua has been touring internationally since 2002, the year it first came to Tanz im August. Its works have received various prizes.
