A grid of dots shatters into a flurry of snow; a wave suddenly rises up from the floor: in “Pixel” eleven dancers move in a digital cosmos. Their bodies control the projections, but they are also part of the illusion.
Mourad Merzouki always transitions between various disciplines. With his company Käfig he creates choreographies that combine hip hop dance, contemporary dance and circus. For “Pixel” he has collaborated for the first time with the digital artists Adrien Mondot and Claire Bardainne to unite dance and video art in a playfully virtuosic dream.
Mourad Merzouki has been a leading figure on the French hip-hop scene since the early 1990s. Today the choreographer works at the interface of various disciplines, opening his exploration of hip-hop up to circus, martial arts, visual art, video and live music. In 1996 Mourad Merzouki founded his company Käfig, with which he has created numerous pieces since then. His lively and poetic choreographies bring urban dance from the street to the stage and tour internationally. In 2009 he became the director of the Centre Chorégraphique National de Créteil et du Val-de-Marne.
