Picture a dance that could be at home in countless different places and times. One that is danced by people of all generations and genders, of all temperaments and moods. And it is danced to celebrate the defeat of a personal or collective tragedy.

Together with the Schauspielhaus Zürich Dance Ensemble, Trajal Harrell creates the imagination of such a dance overarching epochs – named after the headstrong lover from Shakespeare’s tragedy, “Romeo and Juliet”, who dying defied death. Responding to this inspiration, “The Romeo” follows the primal impulse behind the desire to dance and to transcend the here and now.
