For nearly three centuries, “The Beggar’s Opera” has inspired other works, including “The Threepenny Opera” by Brecht and Weill. Robert Lepage and a group of ten performing artists – actors, musicians, singers and a DJ – reinterpret the story for today’s audience.“The Busker’s Opera” tells of a street musician and the music industry sharks who try to keep all the power in their own hands. On their journey through the United States, they encounter a wide range of musical styles, from Ska, Reggae, Jazz, Rock, the Blues, Country, Tango, Disco; Rap and more through to the classical melodies of the 1728 original.
