Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre demonstrates a thrilling ability to fuse the visual immediacy of dance with the narrative strength of theatre. The Bull is based on the great Irish epic Táin Bó Cúailnge [The Cattle-Raid of Cooley], which recounts a long, bloody war fought over a celebrated bull. Michael Keegan-Dolan transposes this gem of Irish sagas to the savage underbelly of contemporary society. A cast of imbeciles, egomaniacs, masochistic deviants and impotent catamites squabble and conspire in the bogs and towns of an Irish-tinged world in which corruption, deception and adultery are at the heart. For The Bull Michael Keegan-Dolan, one of Ireland’s most talented and innovative artists, received the Critic’s Circle UK National Dance Award for Best Modern Choreography.
Das multinationale Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre aus Dublin verbindet seit mehr als zehn Jahren mit großem Erfolg die Unmittelbarkeit des Tanzes mit der narrativen Qualität des Theaters. Der Gründer und künstlerische Leiter der Company, Michael Keegan-Dolan, erhielt für The Bull den renommierten britischen National Dance Award. Außerdem wurde diese außergewöhnliche Inszenierung – wie bereits zwei seiner Vorgänger-Arbeiten – für den heißbegehrten Laurence Olivier Award als Best New Dance Production nominiert. Ebenfalls nominiert, als bester männlicher Tänzer [UK National Dance Award 2007], wurde der unbestrittene Star der Aufführung, der irische Tänzer Colin Dunne, weltberühmt durch seine Auftritte in der Riverdance-Show.
