»… I was looking for someone who’s an angel in the middle of this filth, and there you are …«
Bernard-Marie Koltès
Italian director Antonio Latella, together with famous theatre and film actor Clemens Schick, addresses Koltès’ monologue of the nameless stranger who is searching for a place to stay on a rainy night. A torrent of words aimed directly at a destructive world concealed behind the everyday.
»One sentence forty pages long, pushed out in a single breath, with no full stops or commas to interrupt the clear and poetic necessity of this tide of words. Night Just Before The Forests is an affirmation of the theatre as song, the manifestation of a cry of the soul which turns into poetry, music, with no beginning and no end. Non-stop rain washes his body and makes his words appear absolute, pure. In a ceaseless stream the language – which is reminiscent of the obsession and hope of a Godless prayer – becomes flesh.« [Antonio Latella]
