Say it loud, say it clear ...!

Theme day about escape, immigration policy and asylum legislation

Focus Jury

Currently, more people than ever before have been displaced worldwide. The receiving countries are overextended by the constantly growing numbers of migrants. While the European borders are closed, the theatres open themselves up to a political discourse about the precarious situation of asylum seekers. The theatres show great ingenuity in devising formats of political protest. These range from interventions to social sculptures, participative projects to contemporary plays. But the well-intentioned is not always helpful. What are the appropriate forms to reflect on issues of displacement in the theatre? How can the theatre react to the reality of asylum seekers and politics? How can mentalities and points of view be opened in a discourse beyond the theatrical reproduction of racism, resentment and exoticism?
