In 2014 Tacita Dean was invited to make a project in a theatre. What resulted was a fierce interplay with the actor Stephen Dillane, culminating in four consecutive performances at Carriageworks in Sydney, Australia, on 1-4 May 2014. It was Dean’s first foray into theatre and her first experience of working with an actor. Likewise it was Dillane’s first encounter with an artist. “Event for a Stage” is a meeting of suspicious strangers trying to grapple with each other’s disciplines while making a work of theatre, or art. The Film based on this performance will have his world premiere at Theatertreffen 2015. The text will be published in Berliner Festspiele Edition No. 16.
