At the conclusion of the 2017 Theatertreffen, the Alfred Kerr Acting Prize will be awarded for the 23rd time. This distinction, named after the famous Berlin theatre critic, honours an extraordinary achievement by a young actor in one of the productions selected for presentation at the Theatertreffen. The award is endowed with 5,000 Euro and is funded by Alfred-Kerr-Stiftung, with the support of the Tagesspiegel newspaper, Schering-Stiftung and Stiftung Preußische Seehandlung.

This year’s juror is actor Imogen Kogge. After her training at Berlin’s Academy of the Arts, her first engagement took her to Schauspielhaus Hamburg. In 1985, she joined Peter Stein at Berlin’s Schaubühne, where she also worked with Luc Bondy, Klaus-Michael Grüber and Andrea Breth, in whose productions, Imogen Kogge repeatedly appeared at the Theatertreffen.
Imogen Kogge is one of Germany’s most renowned theatre actors. In addition, she not only appears in film and television productions, but has also taught at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and both the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst “Ernst Busch” and the University of the Arts in Berlin. She has been working as a theatre director since 2002.

December 2017 will be the 150th anniversary of Alfred Kerr’s birth. To mark this occasion, there will be a world premiere at the award ceremony: Ulrich Matthes and Gerd Wameling will read a mini-drama, written by Moritz Rinke and entitled: “Arthur Schnitzler writes a medical assessment of the critic Siegfried Jacobsohn in the presence of Herr Kerr” (research Deborah Vietor Engländer).
