Michael Schindhelm tells the story of Matthias Pollack, chief dramaturg at the Berlin Liebknecht-Theater. After 25 years of being the pinnacle of German theatre, the house will now become the prey of a cosmopolitan culture manager. What seems to be an allegory on the present situation of the Berlin Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, increasingly becomes an oppressive insight into the protagonist’s self-alienation.
Michael Schindhelm was artistic director at Theater Basel, among others. Since 2007, he has been working as an author (most recently LAVAPOLIS, 2014), film maker (most recently THE CHINESE LIVES OF ULI SIGG, 2016) and international cultural researcher. He lives in Lugano and London.
