Stückemarkt Conference
Freedom of the press and the arts are basic requirements for a functioning democracy. But they are currently under pressure: While a free press and free arts are increasingly constrained in some countries, private investors are undermining them in others. At the same time, some parts of society seem to harbour a distrust of the media, which finds aggressive expression in hostilities and attacks towards journalists, in shit-storms and allegations like “mendacious press”. What are the causes of these phenomena? How can they be confronted?
