From October, the Berliner Festspiele is to launch a Performing Arts Season. A panorama of international and interdisciplinary dance, theatre and performance productions will move into the Festspielhaus and the Gropius Bau every autumn and winter.

The artist group General Idea challenged the art world and society at large. Often through humour and satire, they adressed various aspects of consumer culture and social inequalities. On 22 September, the Gropius Bau opens the most comprehensive retrospective on the trio ever produced.

Ether&rsquo;s Bloom marks the first part of the Programme on Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the Gropius Bau. Taking place both online and offline, the programme focuses on the utopian and poetic possibilities of AI and shows works by Elisa Giardina Papa and Mimi Ọnụọha.

With its 2020 festival edition, the Theatertreffen introduced a female quota of at least 50 percent in the direction position for the ten remarkable productions. The jury and the festival&rsquo;s directors have agreed to extend this rule for another year, up to and including the 2024 festival.

Theater im Umbruch: Regisseurinnen im Gespr&auml;ch&rdquo;, edited by Sabine Leucht, Petra Paterno and Katrin Ullmann and published at Henschel Verlag, presents all female directors who have been invited to Theatertreffen since the female quota was introduced in 2020.

Theatertreffen 2023

Nora Hertlein-Hull will take on the position of Theatertreffen&rsquo;s solely responsible director, superseding the current team of directors, Olena Apchel, Carolin Hochleichter and Joanna Nuckowska. The theatre and festival maker will assume her new position on 1 January 2024, her preparatory stage will begin in October 2023. She was appointed by Berliner Festspiele&rsquo;s director Matthias Pees.

The next Theatertreffen will take place from 2 to 19&nbsp;May 2024. Soundshapes &ndash; In Between Frequencies activates the two entrances of the Gropius Bau with sound works by Kapwani Kiwanga and Janine Jembere, creating an acoustic connection between the central entrance portal and the step-free entrance. Drawing from the potential of porosity, this architectural intervention challenges the monumentality and statics of the building.

How Love Moves: Prelude

During Pallavi Paul&rsquo;s time as Artist in Residence 2023, the Gropius Bau presents a prelude to her upcoming solo exhibition in 2024. In How Love Moves: Prelude, a scenography around the three-channel video installation Cynthia Ke Sapne / The Dreams of Cynthia (2017) transforms the historic Schliemannsaal into a twilight space between wakefulness and sleep.
