Recognised for his warm, lyrical sound and strong stage presence, Aleksander Nohr has performed with several of the largest Nordic orchestras and opera companies over the last decade. He is now a permanently employed baritone soloist at the Norwegian National Opera in Oslo, where he regularly performs roles such as Dandini in “La Cenerentola”, Schaunard in “La Bohème”, and Nick Shadow in “The Rake’s Progress”.
Nohr hails from Kjerringøy in northern Norway. He studied in Trondheim and Copenhagen before embarking on a career in opera, starting as a soloist apprentice at the Norwegian National Opera. Over the next decade, Nohr proved himself by singing roles such as Escamillo in “Carmen” at Malmö Opera, Marcello in “La Bohème” at Opera Hedeland, and Dandini in “La Cenerentola” at The Danish National Opera.
He has performed with orchestras such as the Bergen Philharmonic, Copenhagen Phil, The Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra La Scintilla, Concerto Copenhagen, and Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. Nohr has been much in demand for repertoire like Johannes Brahms, Gabriel Fauré and Maurice Duruflé's Requiems or Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana”. He also has a fondness for the Romantic Lied genre and has guested at numerous song festivals. Recordings of Aleksander Nohr singing songs by John Frandsen and Peter Heise have been released on Dacapo Records.
Aleksander Nohr studied with professors Kåre Bjørkøy and Kirsten Buhl Møller. He has participated in masterclasses with Malcolm Martineu, Neil Schicoff, Susanna Eken, Bo Skovhus, Anne Lise Berntsen, Mikael Eliasen, Fiona MacSherry, and Ouri Bronchti. Nohr has received several grants and scholarships in Norway and Denmark, including the Norwegian Government Grant for Artists and support from Tom Wilhelmsen's Foundation.
