Anika

This music sounds like it comes from a dream. But you’re not sure if it’s the kind of dream that you’d rather wake up from immediately because its tones are so bleak. Or whether you’d like to finish the dream to the end because its sounds are so beautiful and erotic, the noise of subconscious desire. Annika Henderson, known as the artist Anika, sings in a cool voice, icy almost to the point of abstraction, laid over monotone, trailing-off dub reggae beats. She counteracts the softness of the echoes with a hard accent reminiscent of the German pop diva Nico, like a sphinx made of ice.

Anika was discovered by Geoff Barrow, Portishead’s composer and producer. She collaborated with him on her first album, “Anika”, a masterpiece of of masochistic, supercharged minmimalism, iridescent delay and failure. Anika’s concerts are breath-taking due to her powerful aura and stage presence: when she comes on stage, time seems to stand still. For Foreign Affairs, she will be presenting her new “Anika” EP on which she sings mostly cover versions such as the Kinks “I Go to Sleep” that has a shock freeze effect on the listener.

Surprise! Anika will be presenting its new band at Foreign Affairs ihre neue Band! Thomas Klein, Alex Paulick and Andreas Reihse (Kreidler) as well as Tyler Pope (LCD Soundsystem, !!!) will support Anika with her act.
