A theatrical-musical project by Christoph Marthaler
Protection from the Future © Dorothea Wimmer
Schutz vor der Zukunft (Protection from the Future) is a theatrical and musical performance exploring the politics of exclusion and selection in the past and the future, and looking specifically at the crimes that were perpetrated during the Third Reich against hundreds of mentally and physically disabled children in the Vienna nursing home “Am Spiegelgrund”. This is theatre about something that cannot be narrated or related, and about the fear of what may still be possible.
Christoph Marthaler received the NESTROY theatre prize for best direction in Vienna in 2005 for Schutz vor der Zukunft. The play was also selected for the Theatertreffen 2006 in Berlin.
