BURNING ISSUES starts off the third day of its conference with two impulse keynotes, collecting initial perspectives for a future of solidarity in theatre and culture.
11:00 – 11:30, Kammerspiele
In English; a German version of the text will be provided as a handout
In an excerpt of her solo show MAMA LOVE, Lea Whitcher (winner of the Cultural Distinction for Dance & Theatre of the city of Zurich) looks at the absurdity of idealised and toxic images of motherhood. Inspiring art, intense encounters, good conversations – there could not be a better start to the transformation!

Worried words to the future
Working in the theatre and cultural sector is a pretty exclusive thing to do at this point in time: The barriers that must be overcome to gain access to rehearsal and production processes both at institutions and in the independent performing arts are both complex and complicated. How can we get from being concerned about access to the theatre and cultural sector to caring with access for everyone?

Never mind the crystal ball: Our tomorrow is a wrecking ball for the now.
The current crises and conflicts confront us with joint challenges that will influence both the present times and future generations. What are our demands of the culture industry? How do we meet the current systemic and social obstacles? How can we create environments at our cultural spaces that are inviting to future generations?

How do we go on from here together?
Who would you like to start a conversation with? Which ideas would you like to keep working on? What exchange would you like to continue together? Have you already found solutions to challenges that you would like to share? Which problems concern you in particular?
The sixth edition of BURNING ISSUES ends on the third conference day. But this is not at all the end of lived solidarity. We invite you to continue conversations and exchange. This is how we will shape our future together and build a community of solidarity in the theatre and cultural scene.
11:00 – 15:00
In a separate section of the conference entitled BURNING ISSUES Kids, we will for the first time ask those who we generally only talk about specifically for their point of view: the children themselves. Children between the ages of four and twelve can be registered until 3 May.
An event as part of BURNINGISSUES x Theatertreffen 2024.
A project by SAVE THE WORLD in collaboration with Theatertreffen and Szenografie-Bund. In co-operation with Sophiensæle and Deutsches Theater Berlin. Funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media as well as the Rudolf Augstein Stiftung.
