An Israeli drama based on the personal experiences of the leading actress, Gila Almagor. During the summer holidays in 1951 the ten-year-old Aviya visits her mother Henya in a little village near Tel Aviv. In World War II, Henya survived the holocaust in a Polish concentration camp and then emigrated to Israel. Having just been released from a psychiatric clinic, she is not yet able to come to grips with what she has experienced. Aviya also suffers from the terrible past. Her father did not survive the war. Mother and daughter meet with little understanding on the part of the village inhabitants. A moving film told from Aviya’s perspective. The film was awarded a Silver Bear at the 1989 Berlin International Film Festival.
