Vortrag zur Ausstellung „Die Wikinger”
It could hardly have been any better: Nine Viking ship wrecks came to light during construction works near the Viking ship museum in the harbour of Roskilde. With a 32 m long keel, (almost) preserved in its entire length, and reconstructed length of 37 m, the Roskilde 6 is the so far largest Viking ship and, at the same time, one of the most spectacular new discoveries.
Kristiane Strætkvern traces the last journey of the Roskilde 6: The accidental discovery in 1996/1997, the archaeological excavation, the complex conservation and reconstruction as well as the first presentation as part of the great “Viking” exhibitions in Copenhagen, London and Berlin.
Lecturer: Dr. Kristiane Strætkvern, conservator, National Museum of Denmark, Copenhagen
