Lecture
Part of the exhibition And Berlin Will Always Need You
How do artists use the history of a place as the starting point for their artworks? What is the process from creating to the concept for an artwork, to showing it in an exhibition? The internationally renowned artist Chiharu Shiota (*1972 in Osaka, Japan) is best known for her gigantic net installations. For the Gropius Bau Academy, Chiharu Shiota gives insight into her new work in the building’s atrium, Beyond Memory. The visit will begin with viewing the artwork, an enormous network of threads, woven together with individual book pages and historical images of the Gropius Bau. Then, in a Q&A format, young people will have the opportunity to ask the artist their questions. This is followed by a guided tour through the exhibition And Berlin Will Always Need You. Art, Craft and Concept Made in Berlin.
