The Car Park Garden at the Gropius Bau invites visitors to reflect on the role nature plays in urban space. The open intercultural picnic takes a critical look at food waste and encourages the recycling of leftovers and seasonal cooking.

Every year, an estimated 18 million tons of food are thrown away in Germany. The disposal of such quantities of food (which in many cases would still be edible) is a relatively new phenomenon – until recently, it was normal to recycle all the existing food products. This also poses new problems for the environment and the climate. We ask you to bring food to the open intercultural picnic that is traditionally used for recycling leftovers or that is prepared from seasonal vegetables.

Ulrike Bruckmann and Gülcan Nitsch from YeşilÇember are on site and organize the picnic. To avoid garbage the project refrains from using disposable cutlery.
