Performance | Rirkrit Tiravanija: DAS GLÜCK IST NICHT IMMER LUSTIG
With Tamara Dauenhauer
MAMA, a primal scream, the desire for presence, for closeness, security, confrontation. Provocation, test, experiment. Fear, despair, pain. This performance involves the constant repetition of the word “mama” in varying speed and tonality. Up to the breaking point. MAMA is an examination of the inescapable claim to responsibility that mothers find themselves confronted with and the actual limits of physical and mental availability.
The event takes place on a demo station by Rirkrit Tiravanija. The stage-like sculpture invites people to “demonstrate” something. Tiravanija plays with the different meanings of the term “demonstration” as both a political protest and a presentation of someone’s talent or hobby. For the duration of the exhibition, the demo station provides a space for daily public performances.
During the event, photographs and video recordings may be made in which you may be recognisable. By attending, you consent to these recordings being used to communicate the event or exhibition.
