Reading Performance | Rirkrit Tiravanija: DAS GLÜCK IST NICHT IMMER LUSTIG

demo station: Sometimes Moving Forward Feels Like Going Backward

Artists Denise Lee and Maria Paula Maldonado present a performative reading of their texts about time, circularity and cycles, beginnings and endings, progressions and regressions in response to the spiral form of the demo station by Rirkrit Tiravanija. The two artists walk on the stage-like sculpture; one clockwise and the other counter-clockwise, crossing paths with each other and other bodies while delivering the readings. In between moments they will leave questions and thoughts on the path for you to respond to or ponder on.

The demo station invites people to “demonstrate” something. Tiravanija plays with the different meanings of the term “demonstration” as both a political protest and a presentation of someone’s talent or hobby. For the duration of the exhibition, the demo station provides a space for daily public performances.

During the event, photographs and video recordings may be made in which you may be recognisable. By attending, you consent to these recordings being used to communicate the event or exhibition.
