On the occasion of Peter Hujar / Liz Deschenes: Persistence of Vision, Spätschicht x C/O Berlin turns its focus to photography within the shifting terrains of urban space, visibility and resistance.

Spätschicht – Live Programme at Gropius Bau is a monthly series of free events with an interdisciplinary programme ranging from talks, book discussions and film screenings to concerts and DJ sets. In addition to the workshop, you can experience a performance by Selin Davasse, a reading by Andrew Durbin, and a short film by Gary Schneider, to which musician Biliana Voutchkova will respond with a live performance.

Co-curated with Boaz Levin, Head of Programme and Curator at C/O Berlin, the March edition of Spätschicht is dedicated to an expanded understanding of photography and the social spaces it brings into being. Through film, literature, performance and participation, the evening picks up individual threads embedded in the works of Peter Hujar and Liz Deschenes and follows them across different timelines. In doing so, memories of artistic spaces of resistance become central – spaces that queer, creative communities carved out for themselves in New York City during the 1960s and 1970s, and which continue to be carried forward and reimagined in contemporary Berlin.

Spätschicht is a monthly series of free events with an interdisciplinary programme ranging from talks, book discussions and film screenings to concerts and DJ sets. Sometimes loud, sometimes quiet, experimental and always open to clashing – a space to discover new things and shift perspectives.
