Tankred Dorst is one of the most important protagonists of German theatre in the second half of the 20th century. As an author, director, teacher, festival director and exceptionally gifted networker, together with his wife Ursula Ehler, he influenced generations of artists across Europe. His oeuvre includes theatre plays, films, adaptations, radio plays and novellas – he is at home in the puppet theatre as well as the opera. On 19 December, he will celebrate his 90th birthday.

On 6 December 2015, the Berliner Festspiele will organise “One Day with … Tankred Dorst”, an anniversary homage in cooperation with ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius, featuring readings, musical interventions, discussions, theatre and film-screenings.

“One Day with …” is a series of events of the Berliner Festspiele, conceived together with ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius. Several times a year, one artist and his or her cosmos will be presented in a one-day homage at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele. The most recent events of the series focused on Ian McEwan and Karl-Ove Knausgård.
