Not far from the Gropius Bau, there is a robinia forest on the grounds of the Topography of Terror. The forest grew as a natural open space, witnessing stories that continue to the present day. The guided tour explores the robinia forest as a socio-historical space and outlines the disruptions and standstills of the site.
The Gropius Bau and its immediate surroundings are characterised by a multitude of histories. The building housed various institutions over time and is marked by the intertwining of the central violent regimes of the 20th century in Germany: colonial rule, Nazi dictatorship and the division of Berlin have left their traces here. The neglected ruin of the Gropius Bau is considered a sign of new beginnings in post-war Germany. As part of a student research project, students from the Berlin University Alliance explored how history and the present affect each other. The results of the research will be shared with the visitors in this guided tour.
The tour takes place outside.
The guided tour Repair, Fractures, Divisions: The Histories and Presents of the Gropius Bau, is part of the Resonance Room’s event programme. In conjunction with the group exhibition YOYI! Care, Repair, Heal, the Resonance Room collects local experiences and voices on mental health in Berlin.
The tours are based on the audio walk Repair, Fractures, Divisions: The Histories and Presents of the Gropius Bau, which was created as part of a student research project in collaboration with the BerlinUniversity Alliance.
